Dr Graeme Smith attended high school in Lismore and completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree at UNSW. He worked for the Illawarra Area Health Service for his Hospital residency allowing him to experience a variety of medical specialties.

After completing the Family Medicine Program he obtained a Fellowship of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1995 and moved back to Ballina in 1997. Dr Smith enjoys all aspects of health care that family general practice has to offer.

He has a special interest in chronic complex disease management and has developed a systematic approach to best manage multiple medical conditions with the help of other local health providers. He likes to be proactive in areas of preventative health care and also enjoys managing skin cancers, travel health, and internal medicine.

Dr Smith supervises General Practice Registrars and medical students and is an examiner and a standard setter with the RACGP. He believes that long-term patient relationships allow for continuity of care, patient education and shared decision making and these factors help to ensure better health outcomes.
