Dr Brendan Kay

MBBS, DipObs (RACOG), FRACGP, FACRRM

Born and raised in Melbourne, Dr Brendan Kay attended Melbourne University for his medical studies, graduating in 1980. Following this, he spent several years working and training in and around greater Melbourne, including 6 months as a psychiatric registrar at Box Hill Hospital and completing his rural GP training at Warrnambool.

In 1984, Dr Kay travelled to the UK, working for a period in Essex and Yorkshire in general practice and geriatric medicine. Upon his return to Australia, he completed a Diploma of Obstetrics with the Royal Australian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1985, and worked with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners as a medical educator and part time as a GP in East Melbourne. He attained Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1990, and also holds Fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine. He spent seven years running a practice in Mortlake (VIC) as a GP obstetrician, before this merged with a Warrnambool based general practice chain, which ultimately joined the Ochre network in 2022. He maintains a strong commitment to medical education, supervising GP registrars and teaching third- and fourth-year medical students at the nearby Deakin University campus.

Dr Kay and his wife have lived in Warrnambool for the last 25 years, and have two adult sons. Outside of medicine, he is an enthusiastic golfer and a self-confessed rock and roll tragic – a guitarist since the age of seven, he has weekly jam sessions, and an ever-growing guitar collection.
