Dr Avin Fernando is an experienced and caring GP who has recently joined the Canberra medical community after 10 years of practice in North West Tasmania. He has a strong interest in chronic disease management, particularly kidney disease, and is committed to providing personalised, patient-focused care.

Dr Fernando is also involved in medical education as a mentor for University of Tasmania medical students and an examiner for international doctors completing Australian Medical Council assessments. In 2023, he achieved the third-highest FRACGP exam results in Tasmania and was nominated for the Tasmanian GP of the Year Award in 2024.

Outside of work, Dr Fernando enjoys hiking with his wife and two sons, playing the guitar and has a lifelong passion for playing cricket.
