Dr Praet is a Consultant Physician in Sport & Exercise Medicine, with dual registration in the Netherlands and Australia.
From April 2015 to September 2017, Dr Praet worked at the Australian Institute of Sport. He holds a PhD in Clinical Exercise Physiology from Maastricht University, The Netherlands and is a Fellow of the European Board of Sports Medicine (FEBSM) as well as the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (FACSEP).
Dr Praet offers a complete array of sports medicine services and tests to ACT or NSW residents. He helps patients with musculoskeletal injuries or concussion symptoms; who are intolerant to exercise due to a chronic disease or cancer treatment; those seeking a pre-participation screening before starting high-intensity or competitive sports activities; and as developing or high-performance athletes.
As a Consultant Physician in Sport & Exercise Medicine, Dr Praet possesses specialist expertise in general medicine, orthopaedics, radiology & rehabilitation plus allied sports sciences including nutrition, biomechanics, exercise physiology & sports psychology. Dr Praet also has a special interest in (neural) prolotherapy through Lyftogt Perineural Injection Treatment (P.I.T.) to treat chronic myofascial (nerve) pain, osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, ligament injuries & TMJ-dysfunction.
Dr Praet has a strong scientific background and has co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. He has been involved in a wide array of research projects on the clinical application of exercise testing and exercise prescription in Metabolic Syndrome, Type 2 diabetes, Cancer cachexia and Mitochondrial myopathy patients.
