Dr Steve Cornell is an experienced General Practitioner (GP) dedicated to community-oriented healthcare. With a diverse background, he recently returned to Tasmania, Australia, to be closer to family. Graduating in 1987 from the University of Cape Town, Dr. Cornell pursued a BA and BSc before entering the field of medicine.
Before practicing medicine, he gained valuable experience in various professions, including handyman work, bartending, adult education teaching (specializing in physiology), hotel management, and prospecting.
After medical school, Dr Cornell spent five years in a rural South African hospital, handling third-world medical problems and major trauma cases. Following this, he worked as a locum in Hobart, Tasmania, for six years, expanding his expertise.
In 1997, Dr Cornell returned to South Africa to care for his aging family. He acquired a thriving urban practice in Rondebosch, Cape Town, serving a diverse patient base, including retirement home residents and university students. Additionally, Dr Cornell spent twelve years as a school doctor, addressing sport-related, psychological, and adolescent health issues.
Outside of medicine, Dr Cornell enjoys an active lifestyle with a focus on tennis, karate, reading, and regular walks with his wife, Wendy, who is a local teacher. Driven by a passion for general practice, he sees his role as a GP as an opportunity to contribute to society and enhance community well-being.
