A Canberra local, Dr. Wee-Sian Woon was raised in the Belconnen region, attending the local public schools before moving north where he completed his medical degree in Queensland in 2012.
He returned to Canberra to undertake his hospital training at Canberra Hospital and Goulburn Base Hospital. Dr. Woon’s adventurous spirit led him to explore various corners of Australia as a locum GP from Alice Springs, Taree and Perth to Darwin, enriching his practice with diverse experiences.
Dr Woon is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and has a Diploma in Child Health from the University of Sydney
Prior to starting at Ochre Bruce in 2022, Dr. Woon was based in Sydney for four years where he undertook further training in Sexual health and LGBTIQ+ medicine working at the Royal Prince Alfred Sexual health clinic and a private sexual health GP practice along Oxford Street in Sydney. He is an s100 HIV and PreP prescriber, qualified to prescribe treatments for Hepatitis B and can provide gender-affirming care for adults.
Acknowledged for his commitment to advancing healthcare, Dr. Woon was awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship,where he conducted research in 2023 across Europe and US on enhancing Adult ADHD care.
In his practice, Dr. Woon embraces the diversity of General Practice, welcoming patients of all ages and backgrounds.
Beyond clinical work, he is a Clinical Editor for HealthPathways writing health guidelines. He also plays pivotal roles in medical education, serving as a Clinical Teaching Visitor for GP trainees in ACT and NSW, as well as an examiner for GP trainees and medical students and holds representative roles for the World Organisation of Family Doctors.
Outside of his professional endeavours, Dr. Woon enjoys partaking in trail running, ocean-swimming, and playing the piano, and has a goal of competing his first 100km ultra-marathon trail race.
Returning to Canberra, Dr. Woon feels privileged to contribute to the healthcare of the local community. His dedication and diverse experiences are a valuable asset to the healthcare landscape of the city he proudly calls home.
