Dr Madeline Burrell

MBBS, MD, FRACGP

Dr Madeline Burrell is from a farming family in Central west NSW and completed a Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine at UNSW with many rural placements.

She moved to the ACT for her internship and residency years as part of ACT Health where she gained experience in obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, general medicine and palliative care. She then completed a critical care senior resident position at Calvary hospital before joining the GP training program in late 2019 and attained her specialty training in general practice in early 2022 with a diploma in emergency medicine.

Dr Burrell currently works Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with early morning appointments available for those who find it difficult to see a doctor due to work commitments. She provides competitive discounts for those under the age of 14, pensioners, and health care card holders but does not bulk bill.

On Friday mornings she provides a telephone results clinic and a script clinic for her regular patients who have had an appointment with Dr Madeline in the last 9 months. Please note this phone clinic is for discussion of results or provision of scripts only and is not for other consults, if there are other issues you wish to discuss you will be asked to make another appointment. It is up to Dr Burrell’s discretion if you are eligible for these appointment types and our friendly reception team will advise you of such. These appointment types are not bookable online. Opioid scripts and other restricted scripts are not appropriate for this clinic at this time.

Her particular interests include; preventative health, general medicine, women’s health including contraception, mental health, as well as teen and young adult health. She aims to provide a non-judgmental, holistic approach to healthcare and encourages accountability and active involvement from patients in regard to their healthcare.

Dr Burrell can insert and remove the contraceptive implant (implanonNXT) as well as arrange and oversee iron infusions. Both of these procedures need a consultation with Dr Burrell first to ensure it is indicated and informed consent is obtained before the procedure can be arranged. Dr Madeline also does not perform mental health plans on the first appointment but can do so at further appointments if appropriate. Given her experience in emergency medicine she can, if the circumstances permit, also place temporary casts for fractures and arrange follow-up.

Dr Madeline strives to be on time and considerate of the other commitments people have during their day, however given her special interests some consults may need unanticipated additional time to provide appropriate and safe care. The best way to minimise delays and excessive waiting times is to book the appropriate length consult and arrive on time for appointments. Late arrivals will likely need to be rescheduled and failure to attend appointments will result in a fee.

Please note at this time Dr Madeline does not perform skin checks and has limited her availability for new worker’s compensation cases. Please see the profiles of the other general practitioners available at Casey Ochre medical center if requiring these services.
