Dr Phil Barker

Dr Barker graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Wollongong in 2015. He completed his internship in the Wide Bay region of Queensland before commencing surgical training and subsequently undertaking Rural Generalist Training with advanced surgical skills training. Prior to his medical degree, Dr Barker also has gained a bachelor degree in medical imaging and enjoys interpreting diagnostic scans for all his patients and utilising evidence based research and guidelines to come to the best patient centred treatment options. He also enjoys bringing point of care ultrasound to his general practice work.

Dr Barker has a keen interest in skin health, dermatology, and skin cancer surgery. He is committed to providing thorough, patient-centred care with a focus on clinical excellence.

Dr Barker has over 7 years’ experience in general practice and has undertaken further training in skin cancer medicine and dermatoscopy. He is currently working towards Fellowship with the Skin Cancer College Australasia. He has gained extra surgical skills and skin excision experience in procedures including skin flaps and grafting for more complex lesions.

Dr Barker aims to increase his accuracy of dermoscopic diagnosis of skin cancer lesions so as to improve patient outcomes and this all starts with regular skin checks and knowing each clients own skin type and their specific risk.

Outside of medical practice, Dr Barker has interests in music, guitar , motorbikes and spending quality time with his family.
