Dr Alison Bleaney

Dr Bleaney undertook her medical degree at Aberdeen University, Scotland and worked for 2 years at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. She then moved to the Falkland Islands in 1977 as a GP anaesthetist and worked there as a civilian during the Falkland Islands war, continuing as Senior Medical Officer, Civilian Medical Services 1982-84. In ’85, She emigrated to Australia and worked initially in Portland Victoria, then King Island before settling in St Helens Tasmania in 1989. She worked there as GP/SMO until 2012 and since then has done locums in many rural areas of Australia. She also worked with Aurora Expeditions on small tourist expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctica.
She has a wide medical experience with special interest in women’s health, geriatrics, and palliative care. Other interests include environmental health, water quality and toxicology, and she is a committee member of National Toxics Network. She enjoys bushwalking, sailing and time with her family.
