After completing his medical and surgical degrees at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, Dr Truter went on to work at a rural South African hospital for five years.

He spent two years at a training hospital where he completed a Diploma in Anaesthetics, spending another eight months working in the orthopaedic department.

Before immigrating to Australia in 2008, Dr Truter worked for a mining company and was part of a team of ten doctors servicing a community of forty thousand. After arriving in Australia, he completed the Fellowship examination for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, attaining fellowship in 2011.

Outside of the practice, Dr Truter is a very keen skier and also loves to surf. He likes to spend as much time as possible with his children, supporting their soccer teams.
