Dr Sharmila completed her MBBS degree at the Australian National University in Canberra.

Dr Sharmila Sambandam is a passionate doctor with special interest in obesity management. She has a holistic approach to managing health. She has a clear understanding of difficulties with losing weight and has a non judgemental approach. Over the last 6 years she has helped her patients reduce weight, maintain a healthy weight and improve health outcomes.

She helps patients achieve remarkable weight loss with evidence based approach including diet, lifestyle to assist weight loss and medications that help with weight loss.

She provides unbiased advice in regards to various weight loss surgeries for people who are considering this option and support them through the journey along with her team.

She does pre-operative assessments for patients in need of weight management surgery as well as provides post-operative support and care post bariatric surgery as needed.

Seeing the benefit of weight loss on physical health as well as mental health has kept her motivated to continue her education in this area.

Apart from obesity management her other areas of interest include sub fertility assessment and investigations, pregnancy care, perimenopause/menopause management, chronic disease management and Mental health management.

She is a SCOPE certified bariatic doctor and a member of RACGP Obesity Management special interest group.

She has been mentored by leading obesity expert Professor John Dixon through Horizon mentorship program.

She is a member of Obesity Collective, National association of clinical obesity services.
