St Marys – GP VMO

St Marys: DPA - Yes | MMM5

Features

Where the wild meets the wonderful (and your patients might bring you homemade jam).

We’re looking for a rural GP/Generalist who doesn’t mind being a little off the beaten track – because just beyond that track is a gorgeous part of Tassie, a strong community, and a practice where you’ll be valued more than your stethoscope (and we really value stethoscopes).

At Ochre Medical Centre St Marys, we’re small, tight-knit, and growing – and we need another set of capable hands (and a good sense of humour wouldn’t hurt either). Ideally, you’ll work full-time, but we’re flexible enough to consider part-time if that suits your lifestyle.

About the Role:

You’ll be part of a team that includes a GP, a co-located Tier 2 hospital (with 8 acute/sub-acute beds and ED), and a supportive Community Health Centre. We operate Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 – a rarity in the GP world – but we do need you on the on-call roster, because rural generalism doesn’t end at 5pm.

If you’re within 30 minutes of the hospital, great. If not, we’ve got a house for you when you’re on call. Because saving lives is easier after a good night’s sleep.

Perks, Payments & Practicalities:

  • 65% of billings (VR) / 60% (non-VR)
  • Rural Medical Practitioner payments for hospital work
  • WIP + Rural Procedural Grants = extra incentive to go bush
  • Eligible for RVTS, ACRRM IP, and IMG Five-Year Scheme (your 10-year moratorium could shrink to 4!)
  • House provided when needed
  • Fully accredited, mixed billing, AGPAL-approved
  • Well-equipped treatment room, pathology collected daily, x-ray just 40 mins away
  • Admin support and a health centre full of friendly faces
  • Software: Medical Director (because pen and paper are so last century)

About St Marys (No, Not That One – The Tassie One):

Perched under the dramatic peak of St Patrick’s Head, St Marys (pop. ~700) is big on character and charm. There’s a quirky pub, great coffee, heritage streets, and a real sense of community – the kind where people remember your name and your coffee order.

You’re:

10 minutes from the stunning east coast
1.5 hours to Launceston
Surrounded by hikes, waterfalls, coal mining ruins and jaw-dropping views
Close to St Helens & Derby for epic mountain biking trails
Near top fishing spots and national parks

This is where rural medicine meets real lifestyle. It’s where your weekends could start on Friday at 5 and take you to a waterfall, a gallery, or just your back deck with a cold drink and a view.

You’ll Need:

✔ General or Specialist AHPRA Registration
✔ Emergency medicine certificate (ALS2 or equivalent)
✔ A love of medicine, a touch of adventure, and the ability to roll with the unexpected
