Location
Where your commute is a beach walk, your colleagues are legends, and the cows outnumber the people.
Ready to live somewhere that literally smells like fresh ocean air and grilled cheese toasties? Welcome to King Island — a windswept slice of paradise in the Bass Strait, famous for its world-class golf, award-winning produce, and fiercely friendly locals. We’re on the hunt for a Rural Generalist GP VMO to join our high-functioning and genuinely happy little practice.
About the Role (aka Your New Adventure):
At Ochre Medical Centre King Island, you’ll split your time between our well-equipped general practice and the King Island Hospital next door. It’s the only game in town – but trust us, it’s a good one. The island community (just over 1400 folks) is tight-knit, grateful, and low on drama.
You’ll be supported by another GP VMO, visiting Allied Health, helpful Registered Nurses, and junior docs from the John Flynn Program who bring their enthusiasm (and usually, snacks). Plus, we have the latest tech and secure systems – because even rural medicine should feel like 2025.
The Good Stuff:
- FIFO option available (though you may never want to leave)
- $1200 per day VMO on-call + percentage of billings
- Tier 1 hospital – ATS CAT 1–5 patients
- House and car provided – island life made easy
- MMM7 = triple bulk billing incentives, WIP payments, HELP-FEE forgiveness
- Relocation assistance
- Cloud-based Best Practice software – safe, fast, and easy to access
- Work with John Flynn junior doctors (future GP legends in training)
- Over 95% of patients would recommend the practice to friends – and island gossip travels fast, so that’s saying something.
What You’ll Need:
- General or Vocational Registration with AHPRA
- Current Emergency Cert (ALS2 or equivalent)
- A healthy appreciation for ocean views, excellent cheese, and the odd curious wallaby
Island Life Perks:
King Island is remote, but never boring. Between the epic surf, peaceful beaches, legendary beef and dairy, and the fact you can actually see the stars at night – this place is the real deal.
- Go fishing before clinic
- Tee off on two of the world’s best golf courses
- Eat some of the best steak in the country (seriously)
- Hike, breathe, relax – repeat
Tourists come and go, but you could be part of something more lasting. Less traffic, more meaning.
