We’re seeking a Rural General Practitioner (VMO) to join our team in this close-knit west coast town. You’ll work in a well-equipped, purpose-built practice adjacent to Queenstown Hospital, with the opportunity to supplement your income through VMO on-call work.

This is hands-on, meaningful general practice — supported by a team who knows rural health inside and out.

What you can expect:

  • Flexible, no lock-in contracts– stay short or long-term
  • $2000 site visit grant for eligible applicants, through the People Project
  • Attractive sign-on bonus
  • $400K+ earning potential with VMO billings
  • Daily VMO rate to significantly boost your income
  • DPA/MMM6 location – eligible for:
    • RVTS, RGTS, ACRRM Independent Pathway
    • Government grants and moratorium reduction
    • Procedural and rural incentive payments
  • Accommodation and car provided
  • Supportive team including an experienced GP/VMO, CDM-trained RN, admin staff, and visiting allied health
  • Full autonomy and flexible hours – work full-time or part-time to suit your lifestyle

Why Queenstown?

Set against a dramatic “moonscape” of rugged hills and rich mining history, Queenstown is one of Tasmania’s most distinctive towns. It’s a place where you can slow down, stretch out, and connect — to nature, to your patients, and to your work.

  • Population ~1,800 – friendly, welcoming, and community-minded
  • 40 minutes to Strahan– for cruises, wilderness rail, and coastline adventures
  • Surrounded by fishing lakes, rainforests, and the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area
  • An off-the-beaten-path lifestyle that’s full of natural beauty and old-world charm

You’ll need:

  • Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM
  • Specialist Registration with AHPRA
  • ALS2 / RESTor equivalent Emergency Medicine certificate
  • Prior experience in GP and emergency settings
