Ochre Health is seeking an experienced Regional Medical Coordinator to oversee and enhance clinical governance in Tasmania. This key leadership role provides strategic input into patient safety, doctor wellbeing, and sustainable clinical models while working closely with the CEO, Founder, Director of Clinical Services, and other Regional Medical Directors.
About the Role:
The Regional Medical Coordinator – Tasmania will provide clinical leadership and oversight across multiple regional and remote communities, ensuring high-quality medical services and workforce engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
Clinical Governance & Leadership
- Member of the Ochre Health Clinical Governance Committee, contributing to overall clinical direction and strategy.
- Lead and participate in clinical governance discussions, including reviewing near misses and clinical incidents.
- Work with the Director of Clinical Services and Regional Manager to resolve clinical complaints, practitioner performance concerns, and medical conflicts.
Medical Workforce Engagement & Recruitment
- Interview and assess medical practitioner candidates in the region, particularly where no local Medical Coordinator is available.
- Provide onboarding support for GPs and VMOs, including developing tailored onboarding plans for doctors with defined skill gaps.
- Support GP engagement, retention, and consulting hours in line with the annual recruitment plan.
Regional Support & Onsite Visits
- Oversee medical services in key locations, including:
- King Island, Flinders Island, Scottsdale, St Marys, Campbell Town, Smithton, Queenstown, Strahan, St Helens, Rosebery, Zeehan, Bridport.
- May also assist with matters in Southern Tasmania.
- Attend M&M meetings, LHD/THS governance meetings, and medical staff councils for VMO contract sites.
- Travel onsite for one week every quarter to strengthen relationships with local medical teams and stakeholders.
About You:
- Experienced GP VMO with recent, regular experience in regional Tasmania.
- Preferably based in Central North Tasmania or surrounding areas, but TAS-based candidates or regular locum doctors will be considered.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and rural health challenges.
- Ability to engage, mentor, and support regional doctors to improve retention and service delivery.
- Comfortable working in a part-time, contracted role (1 day per week + 4 one-week onsite visits per year).
