Dr Cathy Welch graduated from Southampton Medical School in 1998. She initially trained to Senior Resident level in Histopathology, completing this phase of her career in 2005 before retraining as a General Practitioner in the North East of Scotland.

After completing her GP training in 2009, Dr Welch worked across a range of urban and rural practices in the North East of Scotland. From 2013 to 2020, she was part of the remote and rural GP team on the Isle of Arran, Scotland, providing care both in the community and at the island hospital. During this time, she undertook advanced training in Dermatology and Skin Surgery, establishing and leading a liaison Dermatology and Minor Surgery service on the island.

More recently, Dr Welch has worked as a Lead GP in a rural practice in the North East of Scotland and as a locum GP across remote and rural communities. She has also served as part of the medical team at the hospital in the Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory, delivering GP and acute medical services to the remote South Atlantic archipelago.
