Dr Gary Wood completed his medical degree at University of Melbourne in 2016. He spent the next 3 years in Mount Isa completing his internship, a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a year of Paediatrics training. He then spent a year at Gold Coast University Hospital working in the NICU and Paediatric Emergency Department before spending 2 years working in Aboriginal Health in Western Queensland.  Dr Wood is a member of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine with Advanced Skills in Child and Adolescent Health.

Dr Wood is a member of the First Nations’ community, belonging to the Wiradjuri and Biripi nations. He has called Tasmania home since late 2022.

Working between the local Hospital and Ochre, Dr Wood prides himself on providing thorough, appropriate and evidence based care. For his work, he was awarded the Tasmanian Rural Doctor in Training of the Year in 2024.

Outside of work, he loves to escape into nature with his dogs and young family, soaking up the very best mother nature has to offer.
