Dr Oakley has 13 years of experience in General Practice. He has also worked for more than 20 years in hospital and community medicine in remote rural Papua New Guinea and was the editor of the PNG Health Care Manual 3rd Edition (2019).

He is currently the medical advisor for a program providing health services to remote rural communities in PNG. During his work in PNG, Dr Oakley has continued doing GP locums in Australia. He has been practising with Ochre in Tasmania since 2015.

Married, with two adult children, John is blessed with a growing number of grandkids. He loves bushwalking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. Tasmania is his favourite destination for work and holidays.
