Prior to medicine Dr Thomson worked for almost ten years as a high school teacher in health and physical education in public education. After a quarter life crisis and a stint in public health working overseas in development, Dr Thomson decided to pursue a career in medicine. Completed medical school in Wollongong in 2019, spent most of her training at the Shoalhaven medical school and hospital. Rural cadet though the NSW Rural Doctors Network and opted for Dubbo Base Hospital for the junior medical years.
Recently relocated to Coonamble from Dubbo – where Dr Thomson worked primarily in the Emergency Department. Gained significant exposure and training in Emergency Medicine both in the department and through various courses including Advanced Life Support, Advanced Peadiatrics Life Support, Rural Emergency Skills Training, Rural Emergency Obstetrics Training and Emergency Trauma Management. Aiming to finish her GP training at Ochre as well as covering the hospital. She is excited about the new challenges of working in a rural site.
Dr Thomson comes from a large family, who still live in the Illawarra. Many nieces and nephews – who are all gorgeous but loud. Loves travelling and has been all over the world (mostly pre COVID), she loved the Philippines the most – where she lived for 12 months. These days she enjoy walking her boarder collie – Bella – swimming, kayaking and gardening and occasional camping
