Dr Richard Stiles is passionate about delivering high-quality health care to regional and rural communities, having trained and worked in a variety of rural centres in NSW & Victoria.

After graduating from medical school at UNSW in 1991, Dr Stiles trained as a rural procedural generalist, with post graduate qualifications in surgery and obstetrics – though now only working in surgery, and on the general medical roster for Lithgow District Hospital.

He also has post graduate qualifications and an active interest in the field of ethics; in particular environmental & political ethics and philosophy.

He has a lifelong interest in nature-based adventure sports, wilderness exploration, and has travelled widely.

Dr Stiles is a Visiting Medical Officer at Lithgow District Hospital and Lithgow Community Private Day Surgery.

Surgical procedures performed:

General Surgery:

  • Skin surgery with primary, flap or graft closure, wound repair, removal of foreign bodies
  • Vasectomy (LA or GA), circumcision (for therapeutic indications), testicular & peri- anal procedures
  • Open repair of inguinal, femoral & abdominal wall hernias
  • Carpal tunnel release, excision of ganglions & trigger finger release
  • Temporal artery biopsy (call to arrange, as semi-urgent)

Endoscopy / GI:

  • Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy – diagnostic and therapeutic
  • Banding of haemorrhoids, drainage peri-anal abscesses, laying open of peri-anal fistulas

O&G:

  • Insertion and removal of IUD’s
  • Insertion and removal of lmplanons

Orthopaedics:

  • Closed reduction simple fractures – Colles etc.
