New bulk billing clinic opens to support greater access to GP care in Canberra

The Coombs Bulk Billing Practice has opened as a new bulk billing general practice service for Canberra, supporting greater access to primary care for patients and families in the Molonglo Valley and surrounding communities.

Opening its doors this week in Woden, the practice will be offering bulk billed care over the coming months while the team prepares to transition into a new, purpose-built practice in Coombs.

The Coombs Bulk Billing Practice is part of the Ochre Health Group, which is proud to be building on its established presence in Canberra. This year alone, Ochre has provided more than 100,000 consults to Canberrans, supporting access to high-quality general practice care across the region.

The temporary Woden facility will help ensure local patients can access bulk billing GP services while the new Coombs clinic is being prepared. Once complete, the purpose-built practice will support a broader range of services for the community, with allied health partners expected to include podiatry, physiotherapy, pathology and radiology.

The new practice is expected to eventually have more than 10 GPs providing bulk billing services to the local community.

Ochre Health Regional Manager Melissa Menzies said the announcement was an important step in improving access to primary care in one of Canberra’s growing regions.

“Access to general practice is critical for healthy communities, and we are very pleased to be expanding our bulk billing services in Canberra,” Ms Menzies said.

“We already operate more than 30 fully bulk billing clinics across the country, and we look forward to building on that experience to support patients in the Molonglo Valley area.

“Our temporary facility in Woden will provide care over the coming months as we prepare to move into our new, purpose-built facility in Coombs.”

The group looks forward to working with local partners, doctors and the community to support accessible, high-quality care for Canberrans.

Thank you to Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher, Stacy Leavens CEO of Capital Health Network ACT, local members Alicia Payne, David Smith and Andrew Leigh, and everyone involved in supporting improved access to primary care for the Canberra community.

This Bulk Billing Practice is supported by funding from the ACT PHN through the Australian Government’s PHN Program.
