Welcoming our new Junior Doctor

Dr Isabella Bradley

Dr Isabella Bradley will join the Ochre Medical Centre Scottsdale in October where she will spend 13 weeks exploring rural medicine in a program funded by the Federal Department of Health.

The Rural Junior Doctor Training Innovation Fund is a community-based program designed to encourage more doctors to choose a rural general practice career. The program is the first of a number of programs that train, mentor and support doctors as they acquire experience in rural medicine through different stages of their training.

We asked Dr Bradley a few questions about herself:

Where are you from?

I was born in Sydney.

Where did you do your medical degree?

University of New South Wales in Sydney

What made you decide on medicine as a career?

I always wanted to be a doctor or vet from when I was little. As I got older I realised that Medicine would offer both the opportunity to help others, as well as an opportunity to constantly challenge myself to learn more.

What did you do before embarking on a medical pathway?

I started Medicine straight after finishing school, however during my degree I’ve done lots of Outdoor Activities. I really enjoy hiking, mountain biking, skiing and rock-climbing. It was these activities that made me want to move to Tasmania.

What do you think you will enjoy and gain from your rural placement?

I really enjoy the close-knit communities in rural areas and did multiple rural placements during my Medical degree. I am also very excited to get out to Derby after work most days while in Scottsdale.

What specialties interest you?

I would like to do General Practice.

Have you been to Scottsdale before?

Yes.

What are your impressions of the region where you are going to do your rural placement?

Scottsdale seems like a beautiful rural town up in the mountains. My main knowledge of the area is through Derby where I have mountain biked on several occasions.

What hobbies and interests do you have outside of your career?

Hiking, mountain-biking, skiing, reading, yoga, rock-climbing.
