Dr Liyanage graduated from her medical studies at North Colombo Medical College, Sri Lanka, in 1994. Following this, she completed a Diploma in Transfusion Medicine at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and worked as a hospital medical officer and a general practitioner before emigrating to Australia.

She is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, has been doing General Practitioner in Canberra since 2013 and relocating to rural NSW in 2018.

Dr Liyanage has completed an Advanced Certificate in skin cancer medicine and a professional certificate of skin cancer surgery and has a special interest in skin cancers and dermatology. She is also interested in paediatrics, women health (including antenatal care, contraceptive implant insertions/removal, cervical screening tests) and chronic disease management.

In her spare time, Dr Liyanage enjoys travelling, gardening, and spending time with her three children.
